Beware! Changes to Facebook's News Feed

Social network mobile

As you've been scrolling through your Facebook feed recently, you have probably noticed that you are seeing more content from friends and family members that may include debates in the comments, presenting you with more opportunities to interact. This is because Facebook is trying to prioritize content that is more meaningful to you rather than presenting you with brand advertisements or cooking videos.

Key changes

To summarize, Facebook has come up with three major changes regarding their news feed. Firstly, they are limiting the amount of public content like posts and videos from publishers or businesses. However, if you enjoy staying up to date with your favorite brands, you are still able to customize your feed based on whatever you are most interested in.

The second big change is that Facebook will decrease reach, video watch time, and referral traffic. Similar to the first change, this will make posts from people you know will start to rise to the top. "People you know" will be chosen based on your friends that you interact with the most, i.e. likes, comments, and shares.

Lastly, posts will be ranked differently, with the ones sparking the most conversation and meaningful interactions at the top, like we stated earlier. Facebook's aim in making these changes is to make their site less mindless scrolling and more social interaction. That's why you joined the site in the first place, right?

Anyways, just some things to keep in mind next time you notice a difference while surfing the social media platform. As always, Bare Bones Marketing is here to keep you up to date about changes in the Marketing World and would love to help you with any of your various marketing needs!
